If you are already uploading subscriber audio in Apple Podcast Connect and in Omny Studio but need to link the shows together, follow the below steps.

You'll need to have enabled the Apple Subscriptions feature on your organization first. Follow this help guide to set up this feature.

1) Log into Apple Podcasts Connect, locate your show, and copy the Show ID of the show you want to connect to Omny:

2) Go back into Omny Studio, navigate to the Apple Subscriptions tab, and enter the Apple Podcasts show ID and click on Connect Show:

Omny will check for potential issues before linking your show, and alert you if any episodes require your attention:

  • case #1: if no issues are found, Omny will link your show.

  • case #2: if Omny can't find the show you want to link to, it will display the following message:

  • case #3: if Omny finds issues during the pre-linking check process, it will generate a report to guide you:

Open the episode report get more details:

Any changes you make in Omny Studio (updating the name of the show, the artwork, uploading new episodes, etc.) will be reflected in Apple Podcasts Connect. Because of this, from this point on you should only make changes in Omny Studio. Otherwise, any changes you make in Apple Podcasts Connect will be overwritten the next time you update your playlist in Omny Studio.

Notes:

  • episodes which only exist in Apple Podcasts Connect will not be pulled into Omny Studio.

  • once the linking process is completed, Omny Studio will synchronize subscriber audio with Apple Podcasts Connect for all future episodes that are published. Previously published episodes will remain unchanged unless they are updated in Omny Studio (e.g. when the audio is replaced or the description is modified). Omny Studio will then push the subscriber audio to Apple Podcasts Connect for those specific episodes.

3) Add new episodes to your playlist as usual, noting that a clip's visibility will determine which type of listener can play it in Apple Podcasts:

  • Restricted: the episode will only be playable by Apple Podcasts subscribers.

  • Public: the episode will be playable by both Apple Podcasts subscribers and non-subscribers.

  • Private: the episode will not appear in Apple Podcasts.

Check out this help article to learn how to set your clips in Omny to achieve Apple subscriber benefits such as ad-free, subscriber-only bonus episodes, early access, and archive access.

Omny will let you know when a clip has been synchronized to Apple Podcasts :

If a clip fails to synchronize with Apple Podcasts, you will see a red cross appear next to the icon. You can manually initiate the resynchronization of the clip by choosing the Retry Apple premium sync option from the menu:

4) Check the status of your playlist:

  • Set the playlist to either Public or Unlisted if you want the show to be public but want to give special benefits to your Apple Subscribers (e.g. early content).

  • Set the playlist to Restricted if the content is for premium subscribers only.

Set your playlist to 'Restricted', then once you wish to make the show available to everyone, change the playlist's status to 'Public'

Notes:

  • Once this feature is enabled, content updates should only be made in Omny. Any changes made in Apple Podcasts Connect (for example updating the show’s description) could be overwritten by the API.

  • This feature enables you to manage your premium content via Omny, however the set up and management of your Apple Subscriptions will continue to be managed in Apple Podcasts Connect.

  • Omny Studio uses an Apple API to make it easy for you to upload and push content updates directly into your Apple Podcasts Connect account. Files uploaded to Omny, along with any updates made to those files, are subsequently mirrored and pushed into the Apple ecosystem. Please note that:

    • Subscriber audio files are served by Apple to your subscribers, therefore subscriber audio analytics are only accessible in Apple Podcasts Connect.

    • Non-subscriber audio files are served by us, therefore analytics flow back into our analytics UI.
