Having a transcript for your audio isn't just great for making your content more accessible, it can also be used to promote your show, deepen engagement, improve search ranking, and more.

Once your transcript has been generated, if you need to make edits you can use the built-in editor to fix some words up, or assign or change speaker names, and that's what this article will show you how to do.

Editing a clip transcript

First, go to the clip you'd like to edit the transcript for.

Select Transcript, or if you don't have one yet, follow this guide to learn how to generate a transcript.

You'll see your transcript in the middle of the page, the speakers tags on the left, and two checkboxes above the transcript. We'll go through these first.

Highlight low confidence words.

Words that the transcription service has transcribed with low confidence are highlighted in orange to make them easy to identify, check, and if needed, correct.

Seek and play on word click.

Tick this box to start playback from any word clicked on. This makes it easy to check specific words, or quickly navigate through the transcript.

Now let's make changes to the transcript.

Editing transcript text.

You can delete and add text just like any word processor to make changes to the transcript. If they were orange-highlighted before, the formatting will remain if deleted and replaced without moving the cursor to an un-highlighted word.

Editing speaker names.

The transcription service will automatically identify different speakers, making it easier to edit your transcript, but also very useful when exporting this transcript to use as video captions or for other applications. Human transcription through Rev will try and identify speakers and correctly label them from the audio (so if one of the hosts get's called by a nickname, it might show up here).

You can change one particular speaker name by writing a new name and hitting Enter.

You can change that speaker name everywhere it appears by hitting Edit, entering the new name and hitting Save Changes.

You'll now see the new speaker name applied throughout the transcript .

Exporting a transcript.

If you'd like to use the transcript as captions for a video for social media, you can follow this guide to create Headliner video right from your Omny Studio account

To use a transcript for another reason, you can export it by clicking Options, then Export transcript.

Select the format you'd like to export your transcript in.

If you're using Omny Studio's Insert Intro/Outro feature, you may wish to select Offset clip intro to help keep the transcript's timestamps synced to your audio.

You can use this transcript in a variety of ways:

  • WebVTT as captions in Headliner and for social media.

  • .SRT as captions on a YouTube video of the whole episode.

  • Text to easily pull quotes for shownotes, social media, or an episode accompanying blog post.

  • And many more.

Enjoy having transcripts in Omny Studio. If you'd like to activate transcripts please just let us know, and if you'd like to move transcript levels between basic, premium, and human.
